As the spooky season of October arrives, the Reslife program plans many activities for the students. A haunted house is planned to be set up in Kaleiopapa hale, with the help of haumāna volunteering in the scare team, lead rooms, and decorating making the haunted house possible. Along with the Haunted House comes the annual Trunk or Treat, a way for boarders to still be able to celebrate Halloween even if they arenʻt on their home islands.
Even with all of these festivities happening everyone still anticipates that long-awaited Makahiki Games, where the students bring out their dorm pride, get competitive, and have fun whether or not they place first in an event. “I enjoy Makahiki, I am always amused by the enthusiasm of the other dorms in each event,” says sophomore Heʻenalu Lindsey-Soares.
Besides the upcoming events, regular activities are planned throughout the week for students. One activity is Reslifeʻs very own Kaleiopapa Cafe, run by program assistants raising money, selling drinks to boarders only on Wednesdays. Along with regular trips to the mall, this year new activities are introduced, bringing students who are interested in the Pearl Country Club to try their hand at golfing, another taking students to HPUʻs esports arena, engaging in video games on various consoles and genres.
