Bishop Museum Field Trip Inspires Students
On Nov. 5, 2018, Kamehameha’s World Poetry Seminar, Fiction Writing, and TV Studio classes took a field trip to Bishop Museum. This fieldtrip acts as a time to reflect on their shared history as Hawaiians and examine the historical pieces and information on display. These haumāna are expected to submit poems and a short story to showcase the connections made with the museum exhibits.
Although students are permitted to explore Bishop Museum at their own will, it was highly recommended that they check out the Pacific Hall, Hawaiian Collection and the recently installed Rapa Nui exhibit. The students departed shortly after the commencement of fifth period, and returned at 11 AM.
Aloha! My name is Emily Akau and I’m a senior this year. This is my first year in Ka Mōʻī but I am excited to expand my experience as a writer and delve into the world of journalism. I was born in Waimea, Hawaii and raised in Kawaihae under clear blue skies. On the weekends, I enjoy procrastinating with my friends at the beach and writing flash fiction about spooky Hawaiian stories and childhood dreams. If I had one wish in this life, I would wish for the chance to walk among the stars. I’m a total astrology geek and very allergic to ignorance or stupidity. My advice for anyone struggling with their identity is to try everything till something feels right.
