Superbloom: Ashton Irwin’s Solo Album
5SOS’ Ashton Irwin has announced the release of his first solo album, Superbloom, which dropped on Oct. 23.
“The album explores my inner philosophies and feelings about the walk of life I have found myself on,” Irwin said on an Instagram post, breaking the news with his fans.
In anticipation of the album drop, Irwin released one track, “Skinny Skinny,” which gives a glimpse into the musician’s personal struggles and life experiences. In a press release, Irwin noted that the single is from a conversation he had with his 16-year-old brother regarding body image.
“When writing ‘Skinny Skinny,’ I first thought of myself, and many other young people’s struggles with body image and particularly body dysmorphia,” said Irwin. “I’ve never confronted [these issues] in a creative form, and I am feeling strong in saying ‘Skinny Skinny’ goes directly to that painful place in my mind.”
Along with “Skinny Skinny,” Irwin released a second track from Superbloom, titled “Have U Found What Ur Looking For?” on Oct. 2. In a tweet announcing its release, Irwin said, “This is the genesis of my record Superbloom. This song is about overcoming mental resistance and facing every fear you’ve ever had.”
Irwin also came out with his third song on the album, “SCAR,” on Oct. 15. “SCAR is my favorite song on my record Superbloom,” said Irwin. “It’s powerful and raw. A message to my family, a message for anyone that listens, about perseverance through periods of intense struggle.”
Including the three songs Irwin has already released, Superbloom has 10 tracks in total – all of which listeners are waiting in excitement to hear.
