Online Communities Band Together to End the Decade on a High Note With the Team Tree Fundraiser!
Two online content creators James Donaldson (MrBeast) and Mark Rober have teamed up to plant 20 million trees by Jan. 1st, 2020 to fight climate change and end the decade on a high note.
On Oct. 25, 2019 James Donaldson, Mark Rober, and other YouTubers uploaded videos relating to this massive fundraiser to plant 20 million trees before 2020. They have partnered with a non-profit tree-planting organization, The Arbor Day Foundation. With their help every dollar that is donated, one tree will be planted.
To spread awareness for this massive charity event many creators on youtube have come together to create content to promote the fundraiser. Even celebrities have done their part with Elon Musk donating a million dollars and changing his twitter identity to Treelon.
People do have their doubts about whether or not the trees are actually being planted, or how the trees will stay alive. We can not say for sure but in Mark Rober’s video “Using Drones to Plant 20,000,000 Trees” he explains the impact and how these drones boost the chances of survival. Donaldson in his own video showed the process of planting a few trees. Another fact is that the Arbor Day Foundation is an organization dedicated to planting trees and they have been around since 1972.
Realistically this will not stop climate change but it is a step in the right direction. “This is our chance to end this decade on a super strong note, its a constructive way to tell the policymakers that this generation, and our community on YouTube, truly cares about the environment” Mark Rober said. The Infographics Show also made a video on the positive impact planting 20 million trees will have.
As of Nov. 3rd, 2019, about 12,574,420 dollars have been donated. Every dollar helps toward the bigger goal.

I am a part of the National Honors Society and a few other clubs here on campus. I love to write a variety of story types but I have found that I like writing feature stories. I get to meet and understand a bunch of different people while bringing them into the spotlight. For my future, I plan on going to UCLA for nursing and eventually work my way up to getting a Ph.D. in psychology. My main goals this year are to revive the paper and leave a solid foundation for next year's staff to continue the legacy. Don't be afraid to reach out to me with questions or other concerns.
